Vail Reese
Dermatologist, Movie Editor
Artistic Director
San Francisco, California, U.S.A.
vcr@skinema.com
Dr. Reese was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. His training was bi-coastal: BSc at Brown University (Providence, RI), med school UC San Francisco, and Derm residency back at Brown. He is currently in private practice in downtown San Francisco with a clinical faculty appointment at UCSF.
Dr. Reese wrote one of the early papers on the association of facial hemangiomas and neurological defects, later coining the acronym PHACE syndrome. But his true passion is the exploration of skin conditions in movies. His initial paper on the subject was published in the JAAD. He has subsequently created the skin in cinema web site http://www.skinema.com/ since going online in 1996. The site has been featured on CNN, the BBC, Newsweek, and won an AMA "Freddy" media award.
In addition to movies, Dr. Reese enjoys skiing (his first name is Vail, after all), singing, and spending time with his creative, humorous wife and sons.
