Richard SontheimerProfessor of Dermatology University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine Dr. Sontheimer trained in internal medicine at the University of Utah prior to completing his dermatology clinical and research training at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas in 1979. Following that he served as a fulltime faculty member in the Departments of Dermatology and Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern for 18 years. He then served as the Head of the Department of Dermatology at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for six years prior to joining the University of Oklahoma Department of Dermatology in 2005 as its Vice-Chair, Director of Research, and Director of the Residency Training Program. He has had a career-long interest as a patient-oriented translational clinical investigator in the cutaneous manifestations of autoimmune connective tissue diseases. Along the way he found an extraordinary life mate in his wife Elizabeth (Liz) who has blessed him with three wonderful children (Dermanities November 28, 2003; 1[4]) who now are beginning to bless him further with grandchildren. His life has been good with little sorrow and he is most appreciative. |
