Dr. David A. Barzilai completed his M.D. at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio. He is currently a resident at Brown University Department of Dermatology, Providence, Rhode Island. He is founder of ebDerm.org, “Evidence-Based Dermatology” (http://ebderm.org), with the mission to teach and disseminate evidence-based medicine in dermatology.
Dr. Barzilai’s first interest in medical humanities dates to college at the University of Rochester where he was exposed to curriculum in the history of medicine, medical anthropology, behavioral medicine, biomedical ethics, peer-health education, community medicine, and health policy through his “Health and Society” major. Dr. Barzilai earned a Ph.D. in Health Services Research at Case Western Reserve University in 2003 as part of a federally funded M.D.-Ph.D. training grant through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Through health services and epidemiological research, Dr. Barzilai addresses clinical questions that impact patient care, health promotion, public health, and health policy. Dr. Barzilai maintains a broad clinical interest in medical dermatology, evidence-based practice, utilizing technology to promote dermatology teaching and practice, and the medical humanities. Dr. Barzilai embraces a biopsychosocial approach for clinical practice (i.e., the art of taking into account and addressing personal and environmental influences on skin disease) to more compassionately and effectively individualize care. In his free time Dr. Barzilai enjoys reading, recreation, and spending time with his friends and family. Dr. Barzilai’s academic webpage is skinresearch.org
